HEAD OF MALAYAN STATE VISITS ILLINOIS

Mayors Ira Owen and Nelson Howarth headed a delegation which greeted Abdul Khalid on his arrival in Springfield recently. Khalid was escorted to Lincoln's Home and Tomb before proceeding to Petersburg, where he studied agricultural methods, city government, community development and schools for three days. Khalid, whose full name is Abdul Khalid Bin Awang Osman, is visiting the United States as a participant in the International Exchange Program of the United States Department of State to broaden his knowledge of American methods of agriculture, labor and social welfare. The State Department selected Chicago and Petersburg, as representative large and small cities in the Middle West for Khalid to visit. Page 111 / Illinois Municipal Review / May 1958
