DR. SUTER RETIRES Dr. Max Suter, 69, will retire as principal engineer of the Illinois State Water Survey on September 1. Noted for his studies in artificial recharge of ground water, he has been associated with the State Water Survey since 1936. From 1940 until last year, Dr. Suter was head of the Survey's Peoria laboratory where his research developed new theories with regard to replenishing ground water. Since 1957, he has been making a comprehensive study of ground water conditions in the Chicago region. Dr. Suter received his civil engineering degree from the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich, Switzerland. He received his master's and doctor's degrees in sanitary and hydraulic engineering, both from the University of Illinois. He is a member of Sigma Xi, American Association for Advancement of Science, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Works Association, International Association of Hydraulic Research, Society of American Bacteriologists, American Geophysical Union, Federation of Sewage and Industrial Wastes Association, Illinois Academy of Science, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, and is a registered professional and structural engineer.
