AROUND THE STATE
A new metered 16 space uptown parking lot has been opened in Lincoln . . . Mayor John Wright of Carbondale recently dedicated that city's new downtown street lighting system . . . Moline has sold its $1,165,000 water revenue bond issue at an interest rate of 3.894 . . . Preliminary plans for a $289,000 municipal building have been approved by the Normal city council, a G.O. bond referendum on the proposition will be held in January . . . Mundelein, a special census has placed the village population at 9,735, an increase of 3,234 people . . . Villa Grove, a special census indicates an increase in population of 262 people for a total of 2,288.
Downers Grove has dedicated its new $200,000 police station and magistrates' court . . . Granite City—Tweetie Pie is dead!—and the city council, while not agreeing the city's insect spray machine was responsible, has decided to pay $25 to the owner of the canary. City attorney William Beatty recommended payment of the claim on the grounds it would be cheaper than to exhume the bird's body and conduct a post-mortem.
Deerfield, ground breaking ceremonies have been held for the new $1,500,000 Deerfield Commons Shopping Center ... St. Charles' Mayor Ralph Richmond has accepted a $100,000 check as a gift from Col. E. J. Baker to the city. Col. Baker presented the check with instructions to " . . . expend this gift in the way in which you, as city representatives, feel is for the best." . . . Vandalia, the city council has accepted the gift of a site and $100,000 by Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Evans for a new library.

Gibson City, alderman Charles Hall has been named acting Mayor during the prolonged absence, due to illness, of Mayor Henry Hager . . . Augustus N. Knigge has been named to fulfill the unexpired term of trustee C. A. Scribner of Lake Zurich, who resigned . . . Alderman C. R. Fitzpatrick of Murphysboro has resigned . . . Voters in Rockford have elected two new aldermen, Mrs. Alice Garlock and William Burns . . .
BOND ISSUES
Vandalia, the city council has authorized the sale of $395,000 in sewer revenue bonds for construction of sewage disposal plant . . . Rockford voters have rejected two propositions: First to levy a forestry tax and second to increase the garbage tax rate . . . Loves Park voters rejected a $120,000 issue to construct a water filtration plant, by an 85 vote margin ...
