Karen Ristau, formerly with the Arlington Heights Park District, is now a recreation supervisor for the Franklin Park-Park District.

She is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Recreation and Park Administration.

In her new position she will be responsible for the supervision of the North Park Recreation Center as well as coordinating events for girls and women.


Charles Peterson has joined the staff of the St. Charles Park District, as Director of Planning.

Peterson's duties will include coordinating the implementation of the Park District's new Master Plan; preparation of park site development plans; supervision of development projects; and integration of new concepts arising from changing needs and desires of park and recreation district residents.

Peterson is a 1964 graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor of arts degree in landscape architecture. During college, he worked for the Oak Park Park District and also for Edward Lawrence Packard, Inc., golf course architects from LaGrange, Illinois.

For the past four years Peterson has been employed by William James Spear and Associates, landscape and golf course architects in St. Charles.


Paul Rohner, a 1970 graduate of Wisconsin State University at LaCrosse, has joined the ranks of the St. Charles Park District, in the capacity of Recreation Supervisor.

Among Rohner's duties will be Youth Center Director of The Keg, Program Coordinator of Drama and Cultural Activities, as well as working with the senior citizens group. Additional duties will be the operation of Summer recreation programs including supervision, hiring of personnel, budget and evaluation of summer programs.


David L. Wiemer, Executive Director of the LaSalle County Conservation District, has been appointed to succeed Ronald D. Johnson as Director of Parks and Recreation for the Elmhurst Park District. Wiemer, 42, a native of Burlington, Iowa, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University, and a Master of Science degree in Recreation and Municipal Park Administration from the University of Illinois. Prior to his employment with the LaSalle County Conservation District he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Recreation and Park Administration at Indiana University. He had also been employed as Landscape Architect for the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and worked for 11 years as Landscape Architect and Assistant Director for the Peoria Park District.

Wiemer, his wife Evelyn, and four children ages 15, 13, 10 and 6, will reside in Elmhurst.


Robert L. Antil, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has been hired as Recreation Supervisor by the Franklin Park Park District. Antil received his degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University in January of 1970. During the past year he has taught Physical Education for the Chicago, Illinois Archdiocese.

Although Antil is new in our field, he has had exceptional experience in related spheres of activity. He has recreation experience as a Camp Director and as pool manager. He will oversee men's and boys' activities in the Park District's recreation program.


Jerry R. Van Meter, formerly head of Planning and Research for the Illinois Department of Conservation, has been promoted to the position of Deputy Director. In his new position, Van Meter will be responsible for all staff and line functions in the Department. Prior to joining the Department of Conservation, he was a member of the staff of the University of Illinois.


Kerry L. Willey, a Western Illinois University senior in recreation and park administration, has been awarded a two-month internship with the City of Bushnell Recreation and Park Department.

His internship is supported by the new Illinois Student Interns in Local Government. Funds for fifty internships have been appropriated by the state legislature and are being distributed by the Department of Local Government Affairs.

Kerry is from Maquon, Illinois and will spend the summer working for the Bushnell Department.


Richard Erickson has recently been appointed Athletic Director for the Skokie Park District. Dick has a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Southern Illinois University and has recently returned to the Chicago area from Germany where he served for five years as a Sports and Recreation Director for the United States Army. He makes his home in Palos Hills, is married, and has two boys 11 and 5.


Wilbert C. Burks, a 1968 graduate of Grambling College in Grambling, Louisiana, was recently appointed manager of Proctor Recreation Center for the Peoria Park District.

Prior to this appointment he served for two years as Assistant Director of Carver Community Center in Kokomo, Indiana.

As a recreation major at Grambling, Burks served as president of the campus recreation club and as director of intramural sports for the college.

Glenn Cerveny has been appointed Director of the Devonshire Community Recreation Center with the Skokie Park District. Glenn received his Master's Degree in Recreation and Municipal Parks Administration from the University of Illinois. Glenn was Recreation Director of the Pekin Union Mission Society for four years and Administrative Assistant and Recreation Coordinator with the Milwaukee Boy's Club for 3 years. Glenn is married and has three children.


Rick Bunch, Assistant Professor and Acting Chairman of the Department of Recreation and Park Administration at Western Illinois University, has fulfilled the requirements for the Doctor of Recreation Degree at Indiana University. Dr. Bunch is a former N.R.P.A. Intern and Assistant Director of the Oak Park Recreation Department. As a result of this experience, the dissertation research involved an evaluation of internship programs sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association prior to 1969.


Barbara Altwies has recently been appointed Assistant Director of the Oak-ton Community Recreation Center with the Skokie Park District. Barbara has a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation from Western Illinois University. Barbara did her field work in St. Charles, Illinois. Her interests include art and sports.
