Meet The New Executive Vice President Eugene Berghoff, a native of Bethalto, Illinois, assumed the position of Executive Vice-President of the Illinois Association of Park Districts, June 1st. He has a long history in public service dating back to 1956 when he served as Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk, Madison County, Illinois, and later as Circuit Clerk. In 1960 he was appointed Supervisor, Property Tax Division, Illinois Department of Revenue. Later, in 1968, he was appointed Supervisor, Budget and Finance Section, Illinois Department of Revenue and January 1, 1970, was transferred to the new Illinois Department of Local Government affairs as their Local Budget Finance Supervisor (Gene was instrumental in drafting legislation creating the Department of Local Government Affairs). He graduated from Shurtleff College (now a part of Southern Illinois University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and a minor in Business Administration. Upon graduating from college, he served on the staff of the Alton Community United School District, Milton Grade School for three years before entering public service work. In addition to being a Navy Veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He is married, the father of two children, and resides in Springfield. The association and people of Illinois are fortunate to have acquired the services of Mr. Berghoff who possesses the experience and leadership ability in the field of local government affairs and especially in the area of property taxation and finance.
