American Youth Hostels Formed

Groups like this are the backbone of the American
Youth Hostels. Pictured above is the first
organized group to ride the new Lincoln Bike
and Hike trail which originates at Riverside Park
in Springfield and runs to New Salem State Park.

You're a youth until you stop thinking that way. At least, that's what the American Youth Hostels believes. Approval has been granted for the formation of a new American Youth Hostel club, the Lincolnland AYH, with headquarters to be established in Springfield. All ages are eligible.

Deborah A. Churan, a native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, has been appointed director for the new Lincolnland AYH. The Illinois Park and Recreation Society will serve as the sponsoring organization for chartering purposes.

Biking, hiking, skiing, horseback riding, mountaineering, sailing, canoeing, and swimming are all part of AYH activities. In addition to a monthly newsletter informing them of activities in their area, members will receive a passbook and the AYH hostel guide and handbook, plus a subscription to the national AYH publication—the HOSTLER.

Already existing groups and organizations throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky are especially invited to affiliate with the Lincolnland AYH.

Complete information on the program and membership applications can be obtained from Deborah A. Churan, 4001 Sandhill Road, Springfield, Illinois 62702, or through Richard Doering at the IPRS headquarters.
