A Visit From the Governor
On March 2, 1972, Governor Richard B. Ogilvie visited the Longfellow Senior Recreation Club, sponsored by the Oak Park Recreation Department. 167 members of the Longfellow Neighborhood Senior Recreation Club turned out to greet the Governor. Many of the Club's activities were in operation, so the Governor could observe them in progress. During his visit, Governor Ogilvie shot pool, talked with many of the Club members, and addressed the group about reducing the property tax burden for Senior Citizens. Before his departure, Governor Ogilvie was made an honorary member of Oak Park Senior Recreation Clubs and cut a cake honoring his birthday which was a few days earlier.
