GOLD MEDAL FINALIST The Arlington Heights Park District has been selected to compete as a 1973 finalist in the annual national Gold Medal Awards program sponsored by the Sports Foundation, Inc. The program recognizes communities which have achieved excellence in park and recreation administration. Arlington Heights will be evaluated with four other finalists for the award of a Grand Winner in Class III (population 50,000 to 100,000). The other Class III finalists are: Tempe, Arizona; Aurora, Colorado; Southfield, Michigan; Green Bay, Wisconsin. Grand Winners of the five classes will be announced and recognized at the annual National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Congress to be held October 1-3 in Washington, D.C. Criteria for the selection of the Grand Winner in each class will include the degree of program planning and flexibility exhibited by the departments, effectiveness of each department's program evaluation system, extent of planning for future development, and degree of community involvement and support. The Gold Medal Awards for park and recreation management were instituted in 1969 by the Sports Foundation, Inc., a non-profit membership organization, to focus national attention on communities which strive to meet the recreational needs of their communities through outstanding park and recreation programming. The Arlington Heights Park District was nominated for the Gold Medal Awards program by Sellergren Sporting Goods of Park Ridge, and entered by Mr. Ronald H. Dodd, Superintendent of Recreation, Arlington Heights Park District. Illinois Parks and Recreation 13 November/December, 1973 |
