PROFILE MEET THE NEW PRESIDENTS
The Illinois Association of Park Districts will install Allan A. Weissburg as President at the Annual Conference November 15 through 18. For the past eight years, he has been a Commissioner of the Skokie Park Board, currently serving as its president. Al has been active in IAPD committees and as board member for the past three years. He is presently the IAPD representative to IAPD. As a 37 year resident of Skokie and native Chicagoan, he has been active in many civic affairs. Al served as Treasurer of Skokie for ten years; interim mayor of Skokie; and School Board President for fifteen years. He is also a member of the Skokie Valley Kiwanis Club. For many years, he served as an investment banker in Chicago, and later became president of an electrical contracting company in Evanston. Al has been interested in parks and recreation for many years and has worked for its betterment. He was active in organizing special education programs, and recreation programs for the handicapped.
Michael S. Pope, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Elmhurst Park District, will be installed as President of the Illinois Park and Recreation Society for 1974 at the Annual Conference November 15 thru 18. He was formerly the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District for seven years, and also worked for the Topeka, Kansas, Recreation Commission. Mick has been active in the Society as a Board Member in 1972, and as Chairman of the Ethical Practices Committee. He has also served on the IPRS Publications Committee and Personnel Standards Committee. In 1970 he was Chairman of the IPRS Annual Conference Committee. Several of his articles have appeared in state and national publications. In 1963, Mick received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois, and is presently enrolled in the University of Illinois Master's Degree Extension program. In past years he has been involved as Commissioner of the Missouri Valley Association of AAU, Project Director for NPRA's "Lifetime Sports Project," Secretary-Treasurer of the Suburban Park and Recreation Assn. Mick is a certified Administrator of IPES and has completed the Executive Development Program offered through Indiana University. Illinois Parks and Recreation 14 November/December, 1973 |
