GENE BERGHOFF

In working with Conference Program Committees for the last three years, I find they have worked very diligently in presenting programs of interest to our entire membership.

Following each conference we have received a number of comments from districts with the overwhelming majority favorable. The exception being those comments received from medium size or smaller park districts with the following complaints:

(a) only one delegate can attend due to finances

(b) their delegate could only attend one session when there was two of interest at the same time slot

(c) sessions should be geared to the problems of small or medium size districts and to meeting their needs.

The 1974, I.A.P.D. Program Committee, chaired by Michael J. Cassidy, Commissioner, Freeport Park District, has developed a one-day program geared especially to the needs of the smaller districts.

The program will be presented in the same meeting room with the speakers and panel members changing from subject to subject, but it would allow the delegate from the smaller district to attend all sessions and would be beneficial to the districts that could only afford to send a single delegate to the conference.

The suggested outline for topics to be presented on Friday, November 22, 1974 are:

1. So You're A Board Member Now? (Duties and responsibilities of board members)

2. How to Manage Your Business Affairs. (Budgets, Contracts, Purchasing, and Personnel)

3. Round Up All Your Resources. (Making use of available financial and other types of assistance.)

4. Have You Mastered Your Plans? (Establishing immediate and long-term goals and priorities.)

Following the last topic there will be a question and answer period; Let's Hear Your Side (Share your success stories).

We urge your district to send delegates to the 1974 conference; especially those boards that were not represented in the past.

Good attendance will guarantee a continuous program for small and medium size districts in the future.
