The governor has appointed Nicholas Stone of Springfield, who has been assistant State Fair manager since December 1974, as temporary State Fair manager; his term expires January 17. Reshuffling of top administrative posts at four Illinois prisons followed the August 12 resignation of Warden Tom Israel of Menard Correctional Center to take a position as warden with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was succeeded by Ernest E. Morris, formerly warden at the Joliet Correctional Center. Replacing Morris was Dennis J. Wolff, whose position as warden at the Sheridan Correctional Center was filled by Neal D. MacDonald, former assistant superintendent for operations at the Illinois Youth Center at Joliet. The appointments were made by Charles J. Rowe, acting director of the Department of Corrections, effective August 12. Richard M. Hull, Springfield, as deputy
secretary of the Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau, effective September 30, after 12
years of service. Beginning October 4, he will
join the staff of the Texas Legislative
Council working under the reviser of
statutes with computerized systems for the
engrossing and enrolling of bills.
The June 29 conviction of state Rep.
Louis F. Capuzi (R., Chicago) for mail fraud
and conspiracy in a $30,000 legislative
bribery scheme to benefit the ready-mix
concrete industry was reversed by U.S.
District Judge George N. Leighton during
post-trial motions August 26. Dan Teefey, 53, former state representative (D., Mt. Sterling), in East Moline
September 2. He served in the House from
1961 to 1967.
A newly erected statue of the late U.S.
Senator Everett M. Dirksen (R., Illinois)
was formally dedicated September 16 on the
grounds of the Capitol in Springfield. The
dedicatory address was delivered by former
Gov. William Stratton. The sculpture, by
Carl Tolpo of Stockton, includes marigolds,
oil can, and elephant and donkey, all situated near the base of the statue. Gov. Dan Walker and Rep. Gale Schisler (D., London Mills) paid $100 fines but
claimed they were innocent of charges by
Warden Ralph Von Dane that they were
hunting doves in a baited field in Mason
County on September 3 in violation of the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act. |
