Executive Vice President by Eugene Berghoff
In a recent issue of Planning Notes, Bureau Of Outdoor Recreation, Lake Central Region, two publications were listed on methods to maintain rural and urban open space. Protecting Open Space—A Guide to Selected Protection Techniques by Elizabeth Kline. Published by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 5 South State Street, Concord, New Hampshire 0331 (603-224-9945). 1975, 102 pages. One to four copies are $2.00 each. Five or more copies are sold at the reduced rate of $1.35 each. Untaxing Open Space—An Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Differential Assessment of Farms and Open Space by the Regional Science Research Institute, Philadelphia, for the Council on Environmental Quality, April 1976, 401 pages. Executive Summary available. 13 pages. While the text of both publications are geared to New Hampshire and Maryland most of the suggestions have universal application. These books can be a valuable guide to your district in the protection of open space in your community. If Illinois is to provide sufficient open space for park and recreation in the future we must plan now through every means possible including legislation.
IAPD and IPRA believe that the democratic process functions best through frank and open discussion. Materials published in this magazine, therefore often presents divergent and controversial points of view which do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the two sponsoring organizations.
