Bill Radke, Brookfield's Director of Playgrounds and Recreation, retired from municipal recreation in April. Radke was Brookfield's first recreation director and formulated the original recreation program for the village in 1953. After directing it for eight years, he became Brookfield's assistant village manager for two years and subsequently changed employment. He returned to Brookfield in 1971 to resume the directorship for a second term. His current plans include travel, expansion of the circulation of columns and articles on outdoor recreation and increase in the radio show, "Outdoors with Colonel Bill." Radke will continue his director responsibilities for both the Midwest Institute of Park Executives and the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. He and his wife Ruth are looking forward to spending their recreational time in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. __________________________________
