People, Places 'N Things David B. Colmar, Director of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, has been selected as chairman-elect of the Revenue Sources Management School. This is a two-year education program for park and recreation administrators, managers, and supervisory personnel. Designed to service personnel whose job encompasses management of fiscal systems and revenue producing facilities or programs, both public and private environments are discussed. The School is annually held at North Carolina State University in co-sponsorship with the National Recreation and Park Association. Instructors are authorities from across the country in the field of parks and recreation. Director Colmar participated in the program as a student, graduating in 1975, and has served on the Board of Regents in recent years. Colmar's background qualifications includes his degree in Recreation and Park Administration at San Jose State College and a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University. He is a member of NRPA, Colorado Park and Recreation Society, California Park and Recreation Society, Illinois Park and Recreation Association and the American Management Association. Dr. Ted Flickinger, Executive Director of the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) recently announced the hiring of Peter M. Murphy as the Director for Government Services for the IAPD. Peter comes to the Illinois Association of Park Districts from the Legislative Reference Bureau of the Illinois General Assembly where he served as staff attorney/legislative draftsman. Mr. Murphy received his Juris Doctor Degree from the New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a member of the Illinois Bar Association and American Bar Association. His undergraduate degree in political science is from the University of Michigan. Peter will be providing assistance in the preparation and drafting of bills, resolutions and other matters pertinent to the law making process. He will also assist with lobbying and legislative educational programs to increase the flow of information to member park, forest preserve and conservation districts, commissioners and professionals. The Fox Valley Special Recreation Association recently announced completion of their professional staff. Liv Innvaer was appointed to a position of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Ms. Innvaer received a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse. She interned at the Denver Children's Hospital, Denver, Colorado, prior to assuming her present position. Barbara Doffing was hired as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. She also received a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse. Prior to joining the F.V.S.R.A. in September, 1979, she served in Program Director positions at Camp Courageous, Iowa and Easter Seals Camps Wawbeak and Pioneer, Wisconsin; University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse, Adult Therapeutic Activity Program; and Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Wisconsin. Deborah Drabik, a 1979 graduate of Illinois State University, Normal, Ill., has assumed the duties as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Past work experience includes Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association; Special Olympics and Recreation; Victory Hall Boys Home; Normal, and Peoria Association for Retarded Citizens. Kathleen Baert was recently appointed to the position of Therapeutic Recreation Leader. Ms. Baert attended Waubonsee Community College, Sugar Grove, Ill, Prior to her present appointment Kathie was involved in various therapeutic and community recreation programs. Judith Browder has assumed the duties of Office Manager for the F.V.S.R.A. Previous experience has included secretarial, bookkeeping and payroll responsibilities in various office settings.
Illinois Parks and Recreation 34 July/August, 1980 Jane George was hired by the Illinois Department of Conservation, Grants Management Section in September 1979 as a Program Manager for the historic preservation Grants-in-Aid program. She received her B.A. in Recreation Administration and American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is in the final stages of receiving her MS in Therapeutic Recreation from the Department of Leisure Studies at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Jane is a member of NRPA, NTRS, IPRA, and ITRS. Currently she is serving on 2 ITRS committees—College and University Relations and Legislation. Suzette Engerman, a graduate from the University of Illinois in Fall, 1979 with a degree in Recreation and Park Administration, is now employed by the Illinois Department of Conservation, Grants Management Section. Suzette is a program manager for the historic preservation Grants-in-Aid program. In conjunction with her management position, she is also an accountant for the historic sites trust fund. Suzette has had experiences working in park districts, camps, and private clubs. Last year, she participated in the American Universities Program Abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland through the University of Illinois Department of Leisure Studies.
The West Suburban Special Recreation Association in Oak Park, Illinois announced the May 1 hiring of Alicia Orr as a Recreation Specialist. Orr, who received her degree from Illinois State University in Recreation and Park Administration, completed a successful internship with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago prior to joining the Association. West Suburban provides recreation and leisure services to handicapped and disabled youth and adults in Berwyn, Oak Park, and River Forest.
Robert A. Stuart, a member of the NRPA Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1978, was recently honored by the Illinois Association of Park Districts on the occasion of its Annual Legislative Conference in Springfield with the presentation of a Life Membership "in recognition of a quarter century of loyal and outstanding service to the Association." Stuart, the senior partner in the Springfield law firm of Brown, Hay & Stephens, served as General Counsel and Legislative Consultant for the Association from 1954 to 1979 and is recognized as an authority on park and recreation law. He served as president of the Springfield Park District from 1954 to 1975 and is presently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Recreation Foundation. James Stamborski has been appointed Director of Chandler/Kingsley Center for the Evanston Recreation Department, according to Louis F. Schick, Superintendent. A recreation professional with seven years experience in the field, Stamborski most recently served as Recreation Director for Park Forest South. Earlier he was Recreation Director for a military hospital in Saudi Arabia where he managed a 1.5 million dollar recreation complex. He also served for five years as Community Center Director for the Niles Park District. The new center director graduated with honors from Northeastern Illinois University and obtained his master of science degree from George Williams College. He holds professional memberships in both the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and the National Recreation and Parks Association. In his new capacity, Stamborski will direct activities at Chandler/Kingsley Center and, in the future, will head the staff of the new Chandler Leisure Center which is scheduled for construction this summer. Don Roberts has been appointed the new Game Time sales associate in Northern Illinois by Recreation Concepts, Inc. Mr. Roberts, who has a degree from the University of Illinois in Recreation and Park Administration, is the former Superintendent of Recreation of the Skokie Park District, and was the assistant to the director of the Waukegan Park District.
