IPRA highlites
By Kay Forest
Executive Director

I'm sure most of you have read in our newsletter about IPRA's National Communications Award. In case you haven't, here are the details.

In February, we were notified by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) that we received their Gold Circle Award for excellence in a public relations program with a single purpose. The PR project submitted was the IPRA Run to Springfield. Congratulations once again to all of the member volunteers who made this project a big success.

The Committee is already making plans for this year's event where once again IPRA members will carry the official scissors to Governor Jim Thompson to cut the opening ribbon of the State Fair. The runners will start on August 2 from Carbondale and from the Chicago suburbs, each carrying one half of the scissors. They will meet in Springfield on August 5 and join the two halves. Over 150 members are involved in the "Run" which is designed to create statewide public awareness of fitness and park and recreation opportunities.

Once again we are fortunate that the Natural Light Division of Anheuser Busch will co-sponsor the event providing financial and public relations support. This is a good example of how private business can effectively work with a non-profit organization and local government to provide a public service. Thank you Natural Light!!

The Membership Committee has embarked on a new campaign to increase membership in IPRA. It's called "two for one". Any new member who joins between May 1 and August 1 will receive membership until November 83 at the regular price.

The committee has spent several months developing a good prospectives list. We also need the assistance of every IPRA member to recruit new professionals to our ranks. If you would like our recruitment brochure - "Passport to Professionalism", just call the office.

The Public Awareness Committee is also gearing up to provide a myriad of activities in the coming months. They recently completed a very successful Cable TV workshop and are planning a public image workship for the fall. Some of the other special events are IPRA Day with the following;

White Sox - June 22
Chicago Cubs - July 17
Ravinia for Ferrante & Teicher - July 18

The Committee is investigating other possible events such as Sting games, Poplar Creek Music Theatre and Chicagofest to name just a few.

The Sports and Activities Committee completed a very successful winter sports season and are planning for an even bigger summer tournament schedule. Watch for the schedule in your mail soon.

Feel free to contact the office at anytime with your questions and comments.
