TOUR TO LOUISVILLE IPRA once again is sponsoring a group tour to the NRPA Congress in Louisville. Because of the close proximity of Louisville to our state, we have designed a land only package in addition to the air/land offering. We have selected the Gait House and the Louisville Inn. If you haven't made your reservations, we still have a few openings. Call the IPRA office for details. Park Management Institute The Parks Section will once again offer their annual Park Management Institute at Allerton Park, Monticello, Illinois. Held October 11-13, 1982, it is designed to provide management training to park operations personnel in various areas. This year's institute will center on communications and increasing productivity and is designed for anyone who supervises employees. Cost for the 2 1/2 day seminar, meals and lodging is only $150 members, and $160 non-members. Get your reservations in early. TRAINING VOLUNTEER COACHES On June 25, the IPRA Board approved the American Coaching Effectiveness Program (ACEP) which is an educational program designed to train staff to better prepare their volunteer coaches. Beginning in September, IPRA will be offering the Leadership Training Seminars. These seminars will teach staff how to recruit, select, educate and evaluate volunteer coaches. Participants will learn how to conduct Level I coaches training sessions. Participants will receive a complete instructors guide and resource materials including the book "Coaching Young Athletes." The IPRA office will have more registration details in August. STUDENT INTERNSHIPS IPRA has developed an internship program for students majoring in park and recreation administration, leisure studies, or communications. The experience, depending on the time of year, will include conference planning, public relations and publications, and membership services. Jan Peterson, a student from University of Wisconsin/LaCrosse and IPRA's first intern, started in June. She is working primarily with Lydia Lombardo, Membership Services Director. Jan's position with IPRA is half time since she is also working with Northwest Special Recreation Association in acquatics. This fall, a student at Western Illinois University will be working full-time with IPRA on conference planning and membership services. Any students who are interested in the association as a fieldwork location should contact me at the IPRA office. The next issue of the magazine will include the advance conference program. We hope all of you have the date on the calendar November 18-21, 1982. The committee has an exciting educational program planned for you. I hope succeeding generations will be able to be idle. I hope that nine-tenths of their time will be leisure time; that they may enjoy their days, and the earth, and the beauty of this beautiful world; that they may rest by the sea and dream; that they may dance and sing, and eat and drink.
