April 15 Is Deadline For NRPA National Awards Entries The IAPD office has been notified that nominations for the National Recreation and Park Association's National Awards must be submitted to the NRPA by no later than midnight, April 15, 1983, for consideration for the 1983 contest. Award winners will be announced during the Congress for Recreation and Parks, to be held October 2-6 in Kansas City, MO. Illinois park and recreation agencies and similar groups are urged to take steps now to enter the names of any individuals or organizations who have made outstanding and significant contributions to park, recreation or conservation activities in their communities or regions. Applications for the NRPA National Awards may be obtained from the National Recreation and Park Association, Office of Communications, 3101 Park Center Drive, Alexandria, VA 22302; or by calling (703) 820-4940. The NRPA National Awards have six categories: National Literary Award, presented to the writer or publisher who has made a most significant contribution to the creation of a better understanding of the park, recreation and conservation movement through literature. The literature may be technical or philosophic writing and may have appeared in a professional journal, textbooks, general periodicals, bulletins or other media. National Distinguished Professional Award, bestowed on the park and recreation professional who, through inspiration, leadership and incentive, has made noteworthy contributions to the recreation, park and conservation movement. The nominee must have been active in the field Illinois Parks and Recreation 33 March/April 1983 for at least 15 years and have been a member of the National Recreation and Park Association or one of its predecessor organizations for at least 10 years. National Humanitarian Award, presented to the individual or organization whose concern and dedication for humanity has been expressed through recreation, park and related conservation efforts that have enriched the community, state or nation. The efforts may be in active support of meaningful legislation or in donation of land, facilities or monies. The results of such efforts must have lasting value or serve as a standard for later projects. National Corporate Humanitarian Award, presented to the private foundation or corporation which has consistently displayed concern for and dedication to humanity as expressed through recreation, park and conservation efforts. The efforts may be in active support of meaningful legislation or projects or in donation of land, facilities or monies. The results of such efforts must have lasting value or serve as a standard for later projects. National Congressional Award, presented to one member of each of Illinois Parks and Recreation 43 March/April 1983 the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate for demonstrated continuing national leadership to improve or protect the quality and quantity of leisure opportunities through recreation, parks and related conservation programs. National Voluntary Service Award, presented to the citizen or organization whose voluntary contributions have improved the quality and quantity of leisure opportunities through recreation, park and conservation programs. The voluntary efforts may include contributions for at least 15 years, initiation and continued sponsorship of outstanding recreation and park programs at the local, state or national level for at least five years or active work for significant legislation.
