Illinois: Something for everyone
By Michael T. Woelffer Illinois, the land of plenty, with its vast beauty and multi-recreation resources, offers statewide choices for exciting vacations. Splendid recreation can be found throughout the entire State, from along the rivers of Northern Illinois to the diverse array of State parks. Illinois parks offer both experienced and novice camper scenery, romantic history, geologic wonders and plenty of recreation. The sporting life in Illinois is widespread. Anything from snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing to boating and hunting can be done. The Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association have adopted the "Life...Be In It." slogan from the National Recreation and Park Association. The objective of this campaign is to encourage citizens and visitors of Illinois to participate in festivals and special events available to them through the park and recreation agencies. For further information regarding the program, contact either Association. The Illinois Office of Tourism publishes a Calendar of Events booklet which lists the outdoor special events and festivals which will take place during spring and summer '84. This is particularly useful as it lists the various parades and events that are taking place during the summer holidays. To obtain the booklet either call the Illinois Tourist Information Center at 312/793-2094, or write to 310 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 108, Chicago, Ill. 60604.
