IPRA members at RIVEREDGE HOSPITAL, Forest Park, recently celebrated the dedication of the new Francis J. Gerty Wing (see photo below). The new addition houses an intensive treatment unit, a new cafeteria and activity therapy facilities. Included in the activity therapy facilities are rooms to accommodate a multi-disciplinary program. Areas include a dance/music studio, art room, multi-purpose room, woodshop, indoor greenhouse area, kitchen, photolab, testing room, and office space. Patients and staff also utilize a new gymnasium and an exercise center equipped with a six-station Hydra-Fitness unit. A number of Riveredge's therapeutic recreation specialists are active in IPRA.
DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION Chicago suburb is seeking a qualified manager to direct its Parks and Recreation Department. Responsibilities include overall administration of department operations, recreation programming, park development planning, personnel supervision and management of community center building. Reports directly to Village Administrator. Position requires strong leadership, administrative, communications and interpersonal skills. B.A. degree in recreation field required, plus 5 years progressively responsible experience in related position including 2 years experience in qualified supervisory position. Illinois Parks and Recreation 42 March/April 1985 PEGGY KINKADE has joined the staff of the Urbana Park District as public information coordinator. Her responsibilities will include working with the district's marketing programs and publicity as well as the development of a districtwide volunteer program. Ms. Kinkade graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor of journalism degree focusing on consumer affairs. Most recently she has been employed as the coordinator for the Downtown Promotion Committee. DEBBIE THOW, a recent graduate of the University of Illinois' Department of Leisure Studies masters degree program, has also joined the Urbana Park District staff. She will be employed as the community program coordinator responsible for cultural arts programs and special interest classes. She received her undergraduate degree in physical education from Wheaton College and has worked with the Division of Campus Recreation and Department of Physical Education at the University of Illinois. The Gold Medal Products Company has announced three personnel changes. CHRISTOPHER W. GEBHART is the corporate controller. He has responsibility for the firm's financial, legal, accounting and tax areas. Gebhart has a bachelor's degree in accounting/finance from Ohio University and a master's degree in finance from Miami University. He has completed studies toward a doctorate in law. For the past seven years, he was assistant controller at Ortner Freight Car Company in Cincinnati. DAN KROEGER is the company's national sales manager with responsibility for all domestic sales. He was formerly zone manager and assistant zone manager for Gold Medal. He has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Cincinnati. ED TSCHAN has been elected vice-president of manufacturing. He is also a member of the board of directors.
Illinois Parks and Recreation 44 March/April 1985 He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and has been a member of the company's Executive Committee. His new responsibilities include management of the company's manufacturing, engineering and development operations.
Park and recreation officials can learn how to make more profit from their concession stands at a seminar sponsored by the Gold Medal Products Company on Friday, April 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Quality Inn O'Hare, Schiller Park. "How to Make Money With Snacks" is the theme of the show. Audience participation will include ways to merchandise impulse snacks, gourmet popcorn and fun foods; proper menus and sizes; training; "hands on" operation of equipment, and an idea exchange among concession stand operators. A portion of the show will also be devoted to the new gourmet popcorn concept. There is no conference fee for any representatives of organizations which operate snack bars or concession stands. Illinois Hiking and Backpacking Trails, a comprehensive trail guide, will be published by Southern Illinois University Press and released in July. Coauthors Walt and George Zyznieuski hiked each of the trails contained in the book. All were located in State parks, conservation areas, the Shawnee National Forest, county and municipal parks, forest preserves and private landholdings. The book describes in detail all marked trails that are over four miles in length, the trail length, how to get there, what is seen along the trail, facilities available at the park, rules which must be followed and addresses for additional information. Maps are provided for each trail and photographs highlight selected areas. According to the authors, this guide book is for "all outdoor minded individuals."
