GAIL LOEFGREN has been named executive director of the Rochelle Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Loefgren has been a commissioner of the Flagg Rochelle Park District Board for six years, of which she is currently serving as president. She is a member of the Illinois Association of Park Districts' (IAPD) board of directors and serves on the IAPD Membership Committee.

Ms. Loefgren was a speaker at the 1982 National Recreation and Parks Conference and the Illinois Parks and Recreation Conference in 1983. She is also a published authoress.

DENNIS BOKEMEIER was recently reelected to a third term as president of the Illinois Association of Lake Communities. The Association represents lake management and the interests of more than 60,000 property owners.

Bokemeier recently returned from a national symposium on lake and reservoir management sponsored by the North American Lake Management Society. He was chairman of a workshop entitled "Lake Associations and the Legislative Process."

Bokemeier has been general manager of the Lake Summerset Association, a lake development northwest of Rockford, for the past seven years. He previously served as director of parks and recreation for the City of Freeport. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in park and recreation administration from Western Illinois University.

L.C. "ROBBIE" ROBERTSON has been appointed division manager of Midwest Sales Company's new Illinois office. He was formerly employed by the Triangle Supply Company.

Midwest Sales Company is a regional supplier of park and playground equipment. It also manufactures its own line of shelter buildings, fire rings and grills.

Books

A guide to teaching outdoor biology and ecology in the urban environment has been published by The Interstate Printers and Publishers, Inc.

TEACHING NATURE IN CITIES AND TOWNS, by Robert L. and Sonia Wolff Vogel, is designed for use in the elementary school. The book contains four main sections: "Surveying the Site," "Plants in the City," "Animals in the City" and "Studying and Building Communities."

The URBANA PARK DISTRICT was recognized for its not-for-profit public relations campaign series at the Champaign County Advertising Awards of Merit Program.

The 1984 poster and brochure series won its division and was also named first runner-up in the "Best of Show" competition.

The campaign was created by graphic designer Andi Witczak under the direction of Administrative Assistant Kimberly Gress and Superintendent of Recreation Bobbie Herakovich.

Approximately 300 entries in 59 categories were submitted for the competition.

Events

The Springfield Park District will hold its annual INTERNATIONAL CARILLON FESTIVAL June 15-22 at Washington Park, Springfield.

Carillonneurs from Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Florida, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois will be featured. Several recitals are planned for each evening at the Thomas Rees Carillon. Special performances include a presentation of percussion and carillon on June 17 and a concert/fireworks show highlighting the 1812 Overture on June 21.

There is no admission fee for the festival, which is the only one in North America featuring an array of internationally known carilloneurs.

The Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) is sponsoring a LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNICATION SEMINAR on June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont.

Dr. Jon Ericson, chairman of the Department of Speech Communication at Drake University, Des Moines, IA, and noted parliamentarian, is the guest speaker.

The registration fee is $55 for IAPD members and $110 for non-members. It includes all materials, coffee and rolls, lunch and the full-day session. Registrations must be received at the IAPD office by June 4. Additional information is available by calling (217) 523-4554.

Dr. Ericson is an outstanding speaker. He has developed this program to assist board members in their roles as park commissioners, and business and community leaders. The seminar was rescheduled from March due to a conflict in Dr. Ericson's schedule.

The 1985 season of the Chicago Park District's THEATRE ON THE LAKE is scheduled from June 11 through Aug. 31.

Ten adult productions are planned. The first and last shows, which are musicals, are presented for two weeks. Other productions run for one week. All performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m.
