Potpourri The Schaumburg Park District is promoting the "Life. Be In It." philosophy on place mats. Currently, two family-type restaurants in that community have agreed to use the place mats. The district will also use them at its own special events where food is served. This can include "Breakfast With the Bunny during the Easter season, "Supper With Santa" at Christmas and many of the senior citizen potluck lunches. Additional information about the place mats can be obtained from Jerry Handlon, Schaumburg Park District, 235 E. Beech Dr., Schaumburg, IL 60193. Phone (312) 980-2115. "New babies," "new trees" and "new growth" are key words that tie together an easily administered program that has become a big promotional tool for the Champaign Park District. In Growing Together, the basic premises of the district's Adopt-A-Tree program are followed, but with the added touch of selective marketing aimed toward new parents. The key is the concept that the parents will be able to watch the tree and child grow together over the years. The procedure is simple. New parents contact the park district and "adopt" a tree that is planted during the year of their child's birth. (There is no "adoption" fee.) After the "adoption" the parents (and later the parents and child together) are asked to check on the tree at least two times a week. In turn, the new parents receive an announcement with data on their tree and child. They also get a baby t-shirt. For additional information, contact Pat Sims Hechenberger, Coordinator of Volunteers, Champaign Park District, 706 Kenwood Rd., P.O. Box 3125, Champaign, IL 61821-0125. Phone (217) 398-2550. A special "Life. Be In It." calendar has been created by the Zion Park District. In addition to listing the agency's various programs, services and events on a monthly basis, the calendar also contains a special birthday club certificate. Discount coupons for various activities are included on both the birthday certificate and throughout the entire calendar. Persons wanting further information should contact Chuck Paxton, Director of Parks and Recreation, Zion Park District, 2400 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, IL 60099. Phone (312) 746-5500. New Products
