MARK KREINBIHL has been named director of operations at WaveTek, Inc.

Previously serving as chief engineer, Kreinbihl will now be responsible for new product development, project engineering, manufacturing, field start up and service functions for the corporation.

He has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Ashland College.

CATHERINE SHEKLETON has recently been appointed recreation program coordinator for the Village of Hinsdale Recreation Services Department. She previously worked for the Southeast Association for Special Parks and Recreation (SEASPAR).

Ms. Shekleton is a graduate of Illinois State University where she majored in recreation and park administration.

Books

All you need to know to experience the wonders of nature and enjoy the solitude of a forest trail is now available in a new illustrated guide book by WALTER AND GEORGE ZYZNIEUSKI.

Their illustrated Illinois Hiking and Backpacking Trails (336 pages, $12.95 paper, $22.50 cloth) featuring detailed descriptions of 59 trails was published in July.

Kimberly Kovac

KIMBERLY A. KOVAC was recently appointed to the Libertyville Parks and Recreation Department staff as recreation supervisor.

Ms. Kovac is a graduate of Arizona State University where she received a B.S. in Leisure Studies. She previously was a recreation supervisor for the Mundelein Parks and Recreation District, overseeing the aquatics operations, pre-school programs, youth and adult cultural arts, special events and trips.

She has also worked for the Mt. Prospect Park District in various areas. Her student internship was for the Glenview Park District.

Honors

The Willamalane Park and Recreation District, Springfield, OR, recently honored BOB ARTZ by naming a park in his memory.

Artz, superintendent of Willamalane from 1960-67, was killed in a 1979 Chicago plane crash. As superintendent, he was instrumental in the purchase of park land, both inside and outside the Willamalane boundaries. Artz was also executive director of the Illinois Association of Park Districts (1979).

The plaque at the Bob Artz Memorial Park reads "Bob Artz - A Man of Vision." A special fund has been created for persons wishing to contribute to his memory. The money will be used in further development of the park. Donations may be sent to Daniel Plaza, Willamalane Park and Recreation District, 151 N. 4th St., Springfield, OR 97477.

DONALD F. ANDERSON has been named sales manager of WaveTek Automated Swimpools, Inc.

Anderson will be responsible for the sale of WaveTek products throughout the eastern United States. He previously had product responsibilities involving the introduction and sales development of the Rampage Watercoaster.

Obituaries

TED KAVADAS, the first director of parks and recreation for the Park District of Highland Park, died July 12. He was 50.

A 1960 graduate of Indiana University, Kavadas worked as supervisor of recreation for the Glenview Park District from 1960-69. He also served as superintendent of Illinois parks and memorials and as executive assistant to the director of the Illinois Department of Conservation (1969-72). Kavadas was director of the Highland Park Park District from 1973-75, when he suffered a massive heart attack. In addition, he was a staff consultant to the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC).

Kavadas was a past president of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) and the Glenview Optimist Club, and a member of the Highland Park Lions Club. The Highland Park tennis facility. Deer Creek Courts, was dedicated to him for his love of the game.

Kavadas is survived by his wife and two children.
