Great Lakes Senior Executive Institute

By CAROL B. ZAR — Executive Director
Illinois City Management Association

The Great Lakes Senior Executive Institute announces its 1988 program titled Designing the Community — 2015: Fundamental Challenges. This year's Institute, to be held September 25-October 1,1988, is a trip to the twenty-first century, an opportunity to envision the community of the future, and work with professional peers in designing an action plan to implement that vision.

Participants will have the chance to hear experts describe social, educational, technological and political trends, and predict where these trends may lead. Working in small groups participants can incorporate the ideas of these experts into their plans, challenge their ideas and conclusions, and engage in dialogue from which both the expert and the practical manager can benefit.

Held at the Woodstock Conference Center in Woodstock, Illinois, the Institute's setting as well as the program contribute to the contemplative mood of the week long program. Busy executives will have the luxury of taking a break from everyday routine and will have the time to reflect on and grapple with issues that will impact on future planning for our communities.

The Institute, sponsored by the Center for Governmental Studies, Northern Illinois University in cooperation with the Illinois Association of Graduate Programs in Public Administration, is available to senior management personnel in cities, counties and villages as well as to those in state agencies and private industry who regularly deal with local governments. Fees this year including program costs, room and board, are $1,800 single occupancy and $1,500 double occupancy. Registration materials will be available mid-April.
