Vaught Selected Municipal Clerk's
Member of the Year

Janet M. Vaught, Carbondale City Clerk, has been selected as the 1988 Member of the Year for the Municipal Clerks of Illinois. Presented on October 12 at the Annual Meeting of the Municipal Clerks of Illinois in DeKalb, this award recognizes Vaught for her many contributions to the Association since she became a member in 1977. The selection was made by a panel of five judges, including the President of the Illinois Municipal League, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Sangamon County, the Mayor of a Chicago suburb, a State Legislator, and last year's recipient of the award.

Appointed City Clerk in 1979, Vaught served the Municipal Clerks of Illinois as the Director of the southernmost District, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President. During this time, she formed and served as Chair of the first Networking Committee and the first Goals Committee. In addition, although she just completed her term as Immediate Past President, she will be continuing to serve the Association as Newsletter Editor during the next year.

Last May, Vaught was elected as Region 7 Director of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, representing municipal clerks from Illinois, Missouri and Kansas for a three-year term on the IIMC Board of Directors. Locally, she is on the Board of Directors and is Newsletter Editor for the League of Women Voters of Jackson County, is Corresponding Secretary and Newsletter Editor for the Carbondale Business and Professional Women's Club and is a United Way Volunteer. •
