TAX EXEMPT MEETING Date: May 8 Place: Hyatt Regency, O'Hare Hotel, 9300 West Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont. IL 60018 Time: Greeting at 8:45 a.m. Purpose: State and municipal officials from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri will meet to discuss the importance of tax-exempt bonds for financing local projects and plan actions to oppose changes in tax-exempt bond regulations in Congress. Schedule: Opening address by Congressman Dan Rostenkowski (D IL), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and architect of restrictive bond regulations in past Congressional sessions. A panel discussion will follow on the importance of tax-exempt financing for local government, which will include State Comptroller Roland Burris. The morning session will end with a seminar on how to carry out effective political action. Lunch will be followed by state-by-state caucuses to organize political action groups to oppose changes in tax-exempt bonds. Groups: 36 national organizations, including the National League of Cities, the Association of Counties and the Conference of Mayors, all of which are on the steering committee for the meeting.
