27 Cabinet Posts Now Permanently Filled
Here are the 29 Cabinet directors now serving under Gov. Jim Edgar. Two of them — at Insurance and Nuclear Safety — are acting directors who will serve until permanent replacements are found.
• Agriculture: Becky Doyle, 37, an export consultant and former chairwoman of Illinois Agriculture Leadership Associates.
• Aging: Vie Wirth, 55. former executive director of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
• Alcoholism and Substance Abuse: Jim Long, 42, former executive director of the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association.
• Banks and Trusts: Robert Piel, 45, former Republican legislator from Glenwood and former vice president of the First National Bank of Harvey.
• Central Management Services: Steve Schnorf, 46, former head of the secretary of state's driver services division.
• Children and Family Services: Sue Suter, 40, former director of Public Aid and Rehabilitation Services departments.
• Commerce and Community Affairs: Jan Gray-son, 49, management consultant, most recently a partner at the Chicago firm of Coopers and Lybrand.
• Conservation: Brent Manning, 38, environmental biologist and a director of Ducks Unlimited.
• Corrections: Howard Peters, 45, warden of Pontiac Correctional Center and a 20-year-plus veteran of Corrections.
• Emergency Services and Disaster Agency: Ron Stephens, 42, former Republican state legislator from Troy.
• Employment Security: Loleta Didrickson, 49, former Republican legislator from Flossmoor.
• Energy and Natural Resources: John Moore, 55, 25-year veteran of state government, most recently manager of petroleum and chemical safety division in state fire marshal's office.
• Environmental Protection Agency: Mary Gade, 38, former deputy assistant administrator for U.S. EPA.
• Human Rights: Rose Mary Bombela, 40, former assistant CMS director.
• Insurance: Jim Schacht (acting director).
• Labor: Shinae Chun, 48, former director of Financial Institutions and former special assistant to Gov. James Thompson.
• Lottery: Desiree Rogers, 31, a Harvard MBA grad and president of a museum consulting firm.
• Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities:
William Murphy, 55, who was acting director for one year prior to his appointment.
• Mines and Minerals: Ronald Morse, 46, former director of health and safety for Sahara Coal Co.
• Nuclear Safety: Tom Ortciger (acting director).
• Professional Regulation: Nicki Zollar, 34, former chairwoman of Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
• Public Aid: Phil Bradley, 46, former director of Rehabilitation Services.
• Public Health: Tom Lumpkin, 39, former acting director and administrator in the department.
• Rehabilitation Services: Audrey McCrimon, 38, former associate director of the department.
• Revenue: Doug Whitley, 41, former head of Taxpayers' Federation of Illinois.
• State Fire Marshal: Tom Armstead, 54, former Springfield fire chief and fire safety coordinator at Corrections.
• Transportation: Kirk Brown, 44, former director of planning and programming at Transportation.
• Veterans Affairs: Robert Poshard, 57, former veterans coordinator at secretary of state's office and head of Veterans Affairs since last fall (appointed by Thompson at Edgar's request).
• State Police: Terry Gainer, 43, former deputy state police director and special anti-drug adviser at U.S. Department of Transportation. •
