People, Places & Things Rod Aiken named Director of Glencoe Park District
Lombard Park District welcomes new director Dean Bostrom has been named Director of Parks and Recreation at Lombard Park District. Bostrom replaces John "Bill" Moran who retired last year after 38 years with the park district. An Illinois native, Bostrom served as Superintendent of Parks and Recreation in Richmond, Ind. Bostrom, who started in January, received his master's degree in Park and Recreation Administration from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1981. As director, he plans to increase citizen involvement in the park district's decision-making process, provide diverse programming for citizens of all ages, develop a five-year master plan and secure a permanent replacement recreation facility for Westlake Recreation Center which will revert back to a school this fall. The Lombard Park District has also named Brian Mueller to the position of Horticulturist. Mueller received his bachelor's degree in 1984 from the University of Illinois in Ornamental Horticulture. Barbara Vitello has been named to the position of Resource Information Coordinator at Lombard Park District. She will be responsible for all public relations and marketing for the district. She received her master's degree in Communications from Northwestern University in 1987. Oakes celebrates ten years
A National Recreation and Park Association certified professional, Oakes received the 1988 Recreation Department Alumni of the Year Award from SIU. He is past president of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, winner of the IPRA Fellow Award in 1984, and recipient of IPRA's Robert M. Artz Award for distinguished service in 1987. Arlington Heights names three to new positions The Arlington Heights Park District Board of Commissioners recently approved the appointment of assistant superintendents in the Parks Department and the Recreation Department. Jules "Butch" Peuvion has been named Assistant Superintendent of Parks along with his primary duties of Golf Maintenance Supervisor. Sue Curtis was named Assistant Superintendent of Recreation in the Recreation Department in addition to her duties as General Program Supervisor. Jim Glueckert, also named Superintendent of Recreation, continues his duties as Athletic Supervisor. Park district director Gerald Oakes said, "The new titles and added responsibilities recognize the leadership and hard work of these individuals which is representative of our many dedicated employees."
