Joe H. Doud, Executive Director of the Northbrook Park District, was elected President of the American Park & Recreation Society. This national professional organization is comprised of more than 6, 500 members who are committed to the quality of life through parks, recreation and the preservation of America's natural resources. The goal of the group is to promote public awareness about the value of parks and recreation in the lives of individuals, and to provide services which contribute to the development of the organization's members. The Society provides professional recognition and certification, professional growth through seminars and meetings, and ongoing legislative updates.

of Lake Zurich: Department-head level
position responsible for overall operation of
a department that serves a rapidly growing
community of 15, 000. Duties include supervision of recreation staff and coordination with the parks and maintenance division which maintains 16 park sites with a
total of 160 acres. Qualified candidates
must have excellent communication skills,
experience with the development of parks
and facilities, ability to work with developers on park donations, ability to work with
various boards and citizen committees and
ability to lead staff. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in park
and recreation administration, public administration or a closely related field, and

Dr. Theodore B. Flickinger, CAE, Executive Director of the Illinois Association of Park Districts, was elected by professionals from throughout the nation to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the formation of policies that control and direct the affairs of NRPA. The Association is a non-profit service and educational organization dedicated to the wise use of leisure, conservation of natural and human resources, and beautification of the total American environment. It is actively concerned with improving park and recreation facilities and programs and providing more wholesome and meaningful leisure opportunities for everyone. Association members include professional and citizen leaders in the park, recreation and conservation movement; park and recreation agencies and organizations representing the public, private, voluntary, commercial and industrial sectors; firms supplying park and recreation products and services; and individuals and civic groups interested in the park, recreation and conservation field.
