Simon's legislative effectiveness
Editor: I've just seen Donald Sevener's recent profile of Carol Moseley Braun [October1992] and came across a line in which Don apparently questions my legislative effectiveness. I've been criticized for a lot of things, but never for that. With a little checking, Don will find that few in the Senate have shown greater ability to work on a bipartisan basis to get things done. In the session that just ended, for example, these include various Illinois projects, major education legislation, job training reforms, a high-speed rail program that has led to the designation of a corridor from St. Louis to Chicago to Detroit, and help for UN peacekeeping efforts, to name a few.
