Mayor Jack Williams Elected To NLC Board Of Directors

Mayor Jack Williams of Franklin Park, Ill., was elected recently to the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities as the League's annual Congress of Cities concluded in New Orleans. Mayor Williams will serve a two-year term on the NLC board, whose 40 members direct the overall governance of the nation's oldest and largest organization representing municipal government. The League's membership includes more than 1,450 cities and towns throughout the United States, as well as 49 state municipal leagues. Half of the NLC board is elected each year. "Jack Williams has provided strong leadership and brought new ideas to his work as a leader of Franklin Park. We look forward to having that same talent and energy at work for all of our nation's cities and towns in NLC," said Mayor Donald Fraser of Minneapolis, who was elected to serve as the League's president for the coming year.

Along with electing new leadership, the delegates attending this year's NLC meeting also adopted new policy statements outlining national priorities for economic recovery and strengthening neighborhoods and communities, which are being forwarded to President-elect Clinton and leaders of his transition staff.

The Congress of Cities also included dozens of workshops focusing on ways to improve the day-to-day work of local government and to confront the many issues that affect the quality of life and future strength of local communities. More than 4,000 officials from cities and towns throughout the nation attended this year's NLC meeting. •

Sharon U. Thompson, Lee County Treasurer, was notified on December 15, 1992, of her election to the Board of Trustees of the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (I.M.R.F.).Thompson received the endorsements of the following associations: County Assessment Officer's Association; Illinois Association of Auditors and Finance Officers; Illinois Association of County Officials; Illinois Board of Review Association; Illinois Coroners' Association; Illinois County Treasurers' Association; and the Illinois Sheriffs' Association.

In commenting on the campaign, Thompson said that, "I am extremely proud of the I.A.C.O., the many affiliates, and several individuals throughout the state who helped me with this campaign." The executive trustee position was decided by the approximately 2,600 I.M.R.F. agents of record throughout the State of Illinois and represents about 125,000 active employees and 40,000 retirees.
