John N. McGovern, Executive Director of the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association in Northfield, was recently appointed by the United States Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) to chair the board's Recreation Advisory Committee. The Access Board is the federal agency responsible for accessible design guidelines implementing both the Architectural Barriers Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Access Board Recreation Advisory Committee was formed to advise the board on what to include in the final ADA standards for recreation facilities and outdoor developed areas.

Kathleen Cassens was recently appointed to the position of Director of Planning and Development for the Cook County Forest Preserve District. She has served the past seventeen years as Director of Parks and Recreation for the Roselle Park District. Cassens has a B.S. Degree in Recreation and Park Administration from Western Illinois University and an M.S. Degree from Aurora University.

The Wood Dale Park District has announced the hiring of three new staff members. Cindy Priddy, Recreation Supervisor, received her degree from Eastern Illinois University. She has been involved with Great Lakes Regional as representative for the NRPA Student Branch. Irene Lawler has been promoted to the new Accounts Manager position. She began working for the Park District as a part-time employee in 1983, became Secretary/Receptionist in 1985 and Executive Secretary to the Director in 1988. Amy Wachholz, new Safety Coordinator, is a recent graduate from Eastern Illinois University. She recently completed her internship working for PDRMA.

Ann Londrigan has been appointed Membership Services Coordinator for the Illinois Association of Park Districts. She will be responsible for developing a progressive publications program and marketing plan, as well as coordinating the awards program and general meeting planning. Londrigan has served in marketing communications positions in a variety of industries, including book publishing, health care, manufacturing and professional public relations. She holds a B.A. Degree in English and economics from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, and is currently taking classes towards a Master's Degree in communications.

Eleven employees of the Rockford Park District received Employee Excellence Awards at the district's quarterly staff meeting in September. Mike McCall was recognized for his dedication in the office and technical category. Russ Johnson was honored for rescuing an 8-year-old boy struggling in water and aiding a boat that was on fire. Julie LaVelle, Eric Swenson and Audra Ontigiesen were cited in a special team category for their honesty and integrity concerning an internal theft problem experienced at one of the facilities this summer. Bob Papich, Sonja Johnson, Steve Roser, Brad Hobson and John Hill were recognized in a special team category for continuing the programming and rescheduling hundreds of games interrupted by rain. Vance Barrie was cited in the management category for his assistance in the National ASA Girls 14 & Under National Fast Pitch Softball Tournament promotion.
