LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONFERENCES
SCHEDULED TO FURTHER
STATE/LOCAL COOPERATION
Gov. Jim Edgar said directors of eight key state
agencies will participate in Local Government Conferences during February and March to further cooperation and understanding between state and local government.
"Cooperation between state and local government
is important to the quality of life in our state and our
communities," the Governor said. "It is important for
state and local officials to work with each other to
effectively address the challenges faced by communities throughout Illinois.
"To build on this partnership, I have asked the directors of eight agencies whose programs directly affect
local governments to participate in Local Government
Conferences in eight communities around the state.
These regional conferences will help local officials
learn more about the state's programs and services.
Equally important, they will help state officials better
understand the challenges facing local leaders."
Agencies participating in the conferences include
the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs,
the Department of Conservation, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, the Illinois Department of Revenue, the Illinois
State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Each agency director will participate in a panel
discussion, presenting a brief overview of the agency's
programs of interest and importance to municipal,
county and township officials. A question and answer
period will follow, with Sue Leonis, Assistant to the
Governor, serving as moderator.
A list detailing dates, times and locations of the eight
regional conferences follows.
