The philosophy of the Golden Years Council is quite simple: You are never too old to try, and learn, new things. What makes the Golden Years Council unique is the number of volunteers utilized to make this philosophy work. "The volunteerism I see on a day-to-day basis is overwhelming," stated Mary Simonis, Senior Coordinator for the Rolling Meadows Park District. The 10 year anniversary celebration included various activities from bowling at a local center, dance and aerobic demonstrations and a variety of bridge and pool tournaments throughout the week. The week culminated with a plaque presentation to the Golden Years Council from park district, city and township officials. Among the invited guests were past and present Golden Years Council officers and chartered members. "Providing recreational needs for this large segment of our community has been a priority for the past ten years at the Rolling Meadows Park District. We are proud to have such a successful organization," states Rudy Nelson, Director of the Rolling Meadows Park District. * 38 * Illinois Parks & Recreation * November/December 1994 |
