THE PHYSICIST AND THE SCHOOL
The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy might be called our first state-supported "charter school." As officials debate creating schools free of regulations, the academy has reason to celebrate. The school for gifted kids, the brainchild of Nobel Laureate Leon M. Lederman, was approved by the General Assembly ten years ago this month, and it's become an educational laboratory for schools throughout the state. Read Beverley Scobell's report.
