MESSAGE FROM
THE PRESIDENT

Dear Municipal Official:
My congratulations to those of you who were recently elected or re-elected to municipal office. Serving in municipal government is an honorable
and rewarding endeavor; it is an opportunity to give something valuable
back to your community — your time.
Many challenges face our nation's cities today. Sometimes the problems
you will encounter and the responsibilities you carry may seem overwhelming. I commend you for stepping forward. In these rapidly changing times
we need leaders who will meet these challenges head-on.
It was gratifying to see so many of you at the Illinois Municipal League's
recent Newly Elected Officials Conference in Rosemont and Springfield.
Sharing concerns and asking questions are two effective ways to solve problems. You will quickly discover that numerous communities have faced similar issues and concerns and are happy to share their experience.
Mark your calendar for the Illinois Municipal League Annual Conference, September 28 - October 1 in Chicago. The conference is packed with
sessions containing the latest information on a wide array of topics of interest
to municipal officials new or old.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Ray J. Forney
Village President of Ashton
