The Illinois Municipal League was well represented at the recent National League of Cities (NLC) annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona: • Mayor William F. Murphy of Woodridge was elected to the NLC's Board of Directors. He previously served on the NLC Policy Committee on Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations. Mayor Murphy is a past president of the Illinois Municipal League.
• • • • Congratulations and best wishes to Earl Irons, former Village President of Congerville, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, November 13. Mr. Irons has served on the Congerville Consolidated Grade School Board, is a charter member of the Woodford County Farm Bureau and served as its president, and is a former member of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. • • • • The Illinois Municipal League mourns the loss of J. Grant Smith, Village President of Wayne City. Mr. Smith was elected to office in 1993 after his retirement as president of First National Bank in Wayne City. • • • • The Illinois Municipal League was also saddened to learn of the death of Dennis Lauer, the Finance Director of Glenview. Mr. Lauer had served in that capacity since 1976. • • • • Gary Koch, Communications/Education Coordinator for the Illinois Municipal League, was elected national chairman of the Public Relations Society of America's Public Affairs and Government Section last month at the Society's annual conference in Seattle. The Public Relations Society of America is the world's largest organization for public relations and communications professionals with over 17,000 members. •
