Director's Desk KENNETH A. ALDERSON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Nineteen ninety-six looks to be a very busy and
exciting year for the Illinois Municipal League and its
membership. The IML Board of Directors and League
staff have many projects on the agenda for the new
year.
First and foremost on that agenda is passage of the
Unfunded Mandates Constitutional Amendment. As
mentioned in previous columns passage of the Constitutional Amendment is the number one legislative
priority for the League in 1996.
The hourglass on the cover of this issue of the Review symbolizes the deadline we face. The Constitutional Amendment must be approved by both the
House and Senate by May 3 to be placed on the November ballot. You will be seeing the hourglass logo
frequently in the coming months as we continue to
stress the urgency of our effort.
As always, we need your support and participation
if the Unfunded Mandates Constitutional Amendment
is to become a reality. Contact your legislator, your
fellow municipal and other local officials and area media, and voice your support for this important measure.
Best wishes for a successful 1996. •
