EDITOR'S DESK . . .
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley was elected president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors June 25th in
Cleveland. Mayor Daley is the nation's longest-serving
big city mayor. His father was president of the
Conference of Mayors in 1959.
Marlene Burgan, Deputy Clerk of Chicago Ridge,
has been awarded the Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal
Clerks. Ms. Burgan has served the Village since 1974.
With great sadness we report the death of Jack B.
Williams, Mayor of Franklin Park for 27 years and
President of the Illinois Municipal League in 1983-84. |

Mayor Williams was serving on the Municipal
League's Audit and Executive Committees and has
served with distinction on the League's Board of
Directors since 1975.
His advice and assistance to municipal officials
across the state was often asked for and freely given.
League staff will miss his good cheer and friendship.
The Illinois Municipal League was saddened to hear
of the passing of Richard Godfrey, former mayor of
South Jacksonville on June llth. Mr. Godfrey served
as mayor from 1973-1989.
The Municipal League also mourns the loss of Bill
Ottilie, Mayor of Geneva. Mr. Ottilie was elected alderman in 1987 and served as mayor from 1989-1996.
