"Illinois Floods" were the focus of a recent exhibit at the Illinois State Historical Library in Springfield. Major inundations from the Shawneetown deluge of 1898 to the 1993 Mississippi River flood were featured in a series of memorable photographs, many on display for the first time. The whimsical caption to this stereoview of the Shawneetown flood, printed in St. Louis, reads: "We'll go calling when our ship comes in."
