IAPD/IPRA CONFERENCE 2003
4,300 Delegates Don't miss the best state conference for parks and recreation in the nation— the 2003 IAPD/IPRA Conference! Start in with one of 16 satisfaction-guaranteed pre-conference workshops on subjects ranging from "Anger Management in Sports" and "Powerful Positive Tools to Manage and Lead" to "Human Resources Roundtable" and "Diversity: Deluged and Deluded." All pre-conference workshops award 0.3 CEUs and the pre-registration deadline is December 27, 2002.
This conference boasts the largest exhibit ever for Illinois parks and recreation with more than 280 commercial manufacturers, distributors, designers and educational booths. Win Cash prizes and weekend trips to Illinois state parks, daily in the exhibit hall!
With 143 CEU workshops and educational sessions for professionals and board members, you'll find this conference your ideal training ground and networking venue. Fun, of course, is in the mix. Thursday opens with Velvet & Satin, the fabulous Motown revue band, with its seven lead vocals and 16 total band members—plenty of brass and boogie. They brought the house down in Peoria two years ago at our conference. The always popular university and affiliate parties start Friday night and so does the IAPD commissioner reception celebrating the IAPD's 75th Anniversary in die Crystal Ballroom from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Chicago Park District is our host agency and has made so many special events possible, including An Evening at The Field Museum, museum passes for spouses and guests, plus on Friday a special tour of Homan Square, a public-private initiative that has transformed Chicago's North Lawndale community. DANNY GLOVER Most people know him as the older, more cautious partner of the volatile Mel Gibson in Hollywood's Lethal Weapon movies. His most recent role was in the offbeat, critically acclaimed The Royal Tennenbaum's where Glover played a gentle scholar opposite Anjelica Huston. His film and stage credits are numerous. And his television roles have earned Glover many nominations and awards, including an Emmy nomination for his portrayal in TVs highest rated mini-series "Lonesome Dove." Inspired by his work as a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations, Glover is teaming up with HBO to develop a movie about Rwanda. He is also investigating a project about Toussant L'Overture and the Haitian refugees. In his private life, Danny Glover is an advocate for literacy and the arts. He is an activist for racial equality and social justice. Glover is a recipient of the Marion Anderson Award, which honors artists whose leadership benefits humanity. Hear Danny Glover speak at the close of the 2003 IAPD/IPRA Conference, Saturday, January 25, 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
