The Depression was in full swing in December 1934 when Governor Henry Horner (1933-1940) posed for this photograph in a sea of Christmas baskets for the needy. Governor Horner, the state's first and only Jewish chief executive, later donated his extensive Lincoln collection to the State Historical Library. That collection is today the cornerstone of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
