Referenda Results March 21,2006
Of the hundreds of referenda proposals submitted to the voters for the general election held March 21, 2006, a total of 19 proposals concerning park district, forest preserve conservation and recreation agency issues appeared on ballots across the state. Two propositions concerned the establishment of park districts. Voters in Cumberland County approved the reorganization of the Township Park District into a general park district, while in Jasper County the majority of those voting were against the formation of a county park district.
In McHenry County, voters chose to increase the size of the Crystal Lake Park District Board from five to seven members. The remaining 16 proposals concerned agency finances, with only six meeting voter approval. Two out of the five tax issues passed, while four out of 11 bond issues met voter approval. Data for this report were obtained from county clerks offices from around the state and the Illinois State Board of Elections, which hadn't posted official vote totals as of press time. If you are aware of an initiative that is not on included, please contact me at pmurphy@ILparks.org.
