Referenda Results - April 17, 2007
Fourteen of the hundreds of referenda proposals submitted to voters for the general election held April 17, 2007 concerned park, recreation and conservation issues. Six referenda passed.
The results show that forest preserves and conservation districts in particular continue to have the strong support of their constituents to protect and preserve open space. In Kane, Kendall and McHenry counties, voters authorized a total of $203 million in bond money with more than 60 percent of the vote. And, underscoring the fact that every vote counts, in Marshall County, the final tally on election eve showed that the Lacon Park District's tax referendum passed by a count of 177 "yes" votes to 176 "no" votes.
The following table summarizes the types of initiatives, the amounts requested and the unofficial vote totals. Data for this report were obtained from county and city election authorities and their Web sites. If you are aware of an initiative that is not included, please contact me at pmurphy@ILparks.org.
