A Note From The Editor
Congratulations to the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District for being named Illinois' only Gold Medal Winner for 1991. Homewood-Flossmoor was named winner of the Class IV Gold Medal at theOctober NRPA Congress held in Baltimore. This issue of Illinois Parks & Recreations magazine features everyone's favorite year-round activity: Golf. Year-round you ask? Of course it is, even in 20-degree weather. According to one author, as long as the snow has been cleared from the links, the golfers (the die-hard golfers) will turn out for a quick round of play.
Accept The Challenge
I would like each and every reader to accept my challenge to write an article based on your experience with a cooperative agreement your agency has entered into with a municipality, non-profit organizationor private business to fund a program and/or facility. I hate to repeat a tired cliche, but in the current times of "taxpayer revolt," now is the best time to write about what your agency did to help save taxpayers'money by entering into a joint venture to improve or build a facility that not only benefits the community, but benefits those agencies involved. Many articles have been published in this magazine on the subject of shared facilities and intergovernmental agreements. This issue features an article by Judy Beck on the success Glenview Park District has had by entering into an intergovernmental agreement (See page 8). It is our plan to feature an article on cooperation in every issue. Call me at (217) 523-4554 and let's talk about your agency's success with intergovernmental cooperation. I know there are almost as many examples of cooperation out there as there are park districts, and each one is different. Accept my challenge to detail your story in writing.
Trends
Another series of feature articles we are planning for 1992 will be on trends and issues in the profession. Again, accept my challenge to write about what you believe are current trends and/or issues facing the park and recreation profession for 1992 and into the 21st Century.
