Preface Planning is underway for the quarterly issues of Illinois Libraries in 1997. I strongly encourage you to submit articles for publication during the next 12 months. Sharing your experience and insight benefits others in the Illinois library community. The manuscript guidelines for the journal are not demanding and are published on page 247. There are many library initiatives underway that need publicity and recognition. Writing about your special services, accomplishments, special policies and collaborative activities will be instructive to others. Here are some ideas for articles in future issues of Illinois Libraries: • Innovative library services for children, seniors, or ethnic groups • Successful publicity programs • Tips for holding a successful referendum • Fundraising success stories • Benefits of shared automation programs • Implementation of new technologies in enhancing library service • Developing library policies • Intellectual freedom efforts in your area • Staff training programs Other ideas are welcomed on topics of interest to the Illinois library community. I hope to hear from you soon.
