| Environmental Toolkit Makes it Easier to 'Be Green'
IPRA's Environmental Committee has developed an Environmental Toolkit designed to assist park and recreation agencies with the development of environmental policies and to assist staff in developing appropriate solutions to environmental challenges.
The committee extensively researched and compiled information to guide agencies on such issues as:
• Environmentally responsible purchasing practices
• Environmental education and interpretation programs
• Wise use and protection of air, water, soil and wildlife
• Open space planning and preservation
• Reduction and handling of waste
• Wise use of energy resources
|
The Environmental Toolkit also serves as a supplement to the Model Environmental Policy, which was developed by the committee in 1992 in an effort to encourage more park, recreation and conservation agencies to adopt formal policies dealing with environmental protection.
For more information on getting involved with IPRA's Environmental Committee, please contact Committee Chair Cheryl Toohey at 847-674-1500 ext. 2525 or e-mail CAToohey@skokieparkdistrict.org.
The Environmental Toolkit was written by:
Dave Brooks, manager of conservation services at the Schaumburg Park District
Jan Herbert, project manager, Rockford Park District
Rita Hickman, former manager of natural resources for the Crystal Lake Park District
Cheryl Toohey, CPRP, naturalist/school age program coordinator at the Skokie Park
District's Emily Oaks Nature Center
