Two young girls learn about nature found in their own backyards at the Schaumburg Park Districts "Backyards for Nature Fair," a family event held at Spring Valley Nature Center each year near Earth Day. The photo was taken by David Brooks, manager of conservation services for the district, who says 1,000 people attend to "reconnect with the natural world." The event is co-sponsored by the park district, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the local garden club and the Audubon Society.
