Visitors to The Grove in Glenview relive the history of the Kennicott
Family from the 1860s period via naturalists, lecture series / tours and
costumed docents. Pictured here are young boys in Civil War dress
in front of the Kennicott House during the annual Grove Heritage
Days, held this year on July 22 and 23. Dedicated as a National
Historic Landmark in 1976, the Grove is a 124-acre ecological,
historical and recreational site with structures, prairies, wetlands
and oak savannas under the stewardship of the Glenview Park
District. The Kennicott family—noted for their work as horticulturists,
physicians, naturalists and explorers—settled at The Grove in 1836.
