In the field of history, we've barely scratched the surface in Illinois, as readers of the January/February issue of Illinois Heritage will discover. Abraham Lincoln, the most written about American of all time, still gives researchers acres to plow, as Stacy Pratt McDermott reveals in her feature story, "Love and Justice: Marital dissolution in antebellum Illinois." Likewise, archaeologist Robert Mazrim uncovers the lost foundations of the oldest continuously inhabited city in North America in his article, "Recent Research at the Old French Village of Peoria, Illinois." And the history of African-American Pullman Porters has yet to be fully appreciated, as Tom Teague tells us in his story, "The Pullman Legacy."
In addition to these fascinating articles, Heritage explores Chicago history on-line and remembers the Society's first woman president, Doris P. Leonard, of Princeton. It's all good reading and great Illinois history. Share it with a friend.
Very best wishes,
William Furry editor
