DNR Presents OSLAD Checks at IAPD Legislative Conference


At IAPD's 30th Annual Legislative Conference held May 13 in Springfield, ten agencies received ceremonial grant checks for local park development projects, open space acquisition and trail development. The checks were presented by Brent Manning, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which administers the OSLAD, Bicycle Path and Snowmobile grant programs, Accepting the checks were board members and staff from each agency.

1. Bensenville Park District, $200,000 to continue development of the 80-acre Redmond Park site.
2. Decatur Park District, $200,000 for Project Safe Playgrounds: to renovate 15 urban playgrounds in neighborhood parks.


3. Fox Valley Park District, $133,400 to develop Austin Park and link a portion of the Fox River Trail.

4. Gurnee Park District/Village of Gurnee, $161,617.52 to develop two neighborhood parks (Shaw Park and University Park).

5. Hanover Park Park District, $200,000 to assist with the construction of the Seafari Springs Aquatic Center; $94,000 to acquire an additional 2.03 acres adjacent to the aquatic center to increase the neighborhood's buffer zone.

6. Hoffman Estates Park District, $120,561.82 to acquire an additional 11 acres to create a 27-acre community park site.

7. Park Ridge Recreation and Park District, $150,100 to expand the Wildwood Nature Center by enlarging the classroom area, working and storage area and upgrading restrooms.

8. Peoria Park District, $180,000 to acquire 24 acres to serve emerging neighborhoods on the far north side of the district; $200,000 to further develop Southdown/Carver Park to include a softball field, soccer field, walking path, playground equipment, an outdoor environmental learning center and landscaping.

9. Skokie Park District, $112,000 to acquire 0.51 acres of former American Legion property to develop an area that primarily serves "youth at risk" with features including basketball courts, roller hockey, ice hockey, playground area.

10. Will County Forest Preserve District, $111,657.56 to restore, enhance and interpret an existing gravel surface mine and adjacent natural areas in Rock Run Preserve; $200,000 to develop the initial 12 miles of the Old Plank Road trail from Park Forest west to Hickory Creek Junction Forest Preserve.
